Lights-Out for Earth, Solar-on for Home
[SINGAPORE, 24 Mar 2025] – In conjunction with Earth Hour 2025, Huawei, the leading global provider of digital power products and solutions joined hands with residents of Singapore West Coast to commemorate the global initiative. As one of the participating companies at the event, Huawei showcased its leading residential smart photovoltaic (PV) solutions with its partner JJ-LAPP, demonstrating the benefits of solar energy for homes and contributing to a greener environment. This is in line with Singapore’s Green Plan 2030, also a demonstration of the company’s commitment to global environmental stewardship.
Held on 22 March 2025 at the West Coast Community Centre, this annual carnival brought together the community to share sustainability practices with residents, raise awareness of environmental issues, and at the same time foster community spirit. The event also saw residents creating upcycling crafts, and featured a sustainable fashion show and clothes swap.
Huawei highlighted its smart FusionSolar PV solutions, which provide innovative and reliable solutions for residential homes at zero upfront costs. By adopting Huawei’s residential solar solutions, residents gain access to a comprehensive solution from roof to ground, covering energy generation to energy supply. With a 25-year system design life for a residential PV system, residents can enjoy yearly cost savings of approximately SGD4,000 per year for a typical landed home. Additionally, adopting these solutions could eliminate up to 2.6 tons of CO2 emissions annually per household, equivalent to planting 124 trees per year.
Compared to traditional power generation, Huawei’s FusionSolar PV solutions effectively minimise power outage losses, helping in achieving zero-carbon generation and bridging the energy gap. These solutions provide residents with insights into sustainable energy solutions and the benefits of utilising solar power in their homes. Huawei’s dedication to driving global transformation towards carbon neutrality is evident, as it assists households and businesses in Singapore in adopting clean solar energy solutions to accelerate the transition to renewable energy.
Mr Desmond Lee, Minister for National Development & Minister-in-Charge of Social Services Integration & Adviser to West Coast GRC GROs presented as host of the event, he gained insights into Huawei’s residential PV solutions and its ongoing efforts to contribute to Singapore’s Green Plan 2030. This underscores the importance of collaboration between the public and private sectors in achieving environmental sustainability goals.
Mr Maxi Wang, CEO of Huawei International said, “As we continue to champion sustainability and support Singapore’s Green Plan 2030, Huawei is proud to showcase our intelligent FusionSolar PV solutions at the West Coast Earth Hour event. Through the sharing, we aim to contribute to a greener environment and inspire more residents to embrace renewable energy solutions for a more sustainable future.”
With year-round sunshine, solar energy emerges as Singapore’s most promising renewable energy source. This has made Singapore to be one of the most solar-dense cities in the world. As one of the leading providers of digital power products and solutions, Huawei has long been at the forefront of advocating for renewable energy solutions in Singapore and driving efforts through strategic partnerships and initiatives. For example, Huawei’s smart string inverter solution was deployed to support EDPR APAC’s offshore floating Photovoltaic (PV) farm, which is one of the world’s largest offshore floating PV system off the north coast of Singapore on the Straits of Johor, using technology to generate clean energy in corrosive, saline conditions. Additionally, Huawei's cutting-edge solutions were chosen by Sembcorp Industries Ltd for its utility-scale Energy Storage System (ESS) on Jurong Island, marking the system as the largest of its kind in Southeast Asia. These initiatives underscore Huawei's commitment to promoting clean energy and supporting Singapore's Green Plan 2030.
In addition to these external initiatives, Huawei is taking firm action internally to enhance energy efficiency and reduce reliance on fossil fuels. Since 2019, the company has recorded a notable 1.9x increase in the average energy efficiency of its products. Moreover, the company has substantially increased its usage of renewable energy for operations by 40% since 2020, significantly reducing its dependency on fossil fuels. These collective efforts demonstrate Huawei's dedication to building a sustainable future and combating climate change on a global scale.
